- Own the architecture for AI-enabled software systems

- Design, build, and deploy robust Generative AI agents featuring advanced capabilities like persistent memory, shared state management, and complex multi-step reasoning workflows specifically tailored for real-world educational applications.
- Drive the development of cutting-edge, AI-enabled web based educational software systems that redefine user interaction and learning outcomes.
- Seamlessly incorporate Generative AI features into existing platforms, focusing on optimizing performance, ensuring a seamless UX, and maintaining strict safety compliance.
- Expertly leverage Large Language Models (LLMs) and multimodal models to deliver highly intelligent, context-aware user experiences.
- Establish and maintain frameworks for comprehensive agent evaluation, including rigorous testing, critical safety assessments, and detailed performance monitoring.
- Partner closely with other teams to translate complex user needs and learning workflows into scalable, production-ready agentic capabilities.
- Act as a subject matter expert, guiding engineers on advanced agent design patterns, optimal LLM integration strategies, and best practices for building secure, autonomous systems.
- Contribute to a mission-driven environment focused on innovation, measurable impact, and the ethical, responsible development and deployment of AI enabled products.
Requirements
- 5+ years of full-stack experience
- 2+ years at a Senior level
- Hands-on experience building agentic systems
- Strong Python programming knowledge
- Strong TypeScript and/or JavaScript programming knowledge
- Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)

Cambium Assessment is a leader in online testing. We build online assessment software systems used by millions of students and thousands of educators. We’re hiring a Senior Software Engineer to own the architecture for AI-enabled software systems. You’ll be designing autonomous AI agents with persistent memory, shared state, and multi-step reasoning, embedding them into production EdTech products at scale. This is an IC role where you’ll build agentic systems, set up evaluation/safety frameworks, and mentor other engineers. Tech Stack/Concepts: Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, AWS Bedrock, Tool Calling, RAG, Prompt/Context Engineering. Requirements: 5+ years of full-stack experience (2+ years at a Senior level); Hands-on experience building agentic systems; Strong Python and TypeScript/JavaScript programming knowledge; Cloud experience (AWS/GCP/Azure). Note: Due to company policy Cambium Assessment cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role. Nice to have: Experience with AWS Bedrock, Strands Agents, AI eval frameworks, or an EdTech background.
