Role details
Responsibilities
- Take a task from idea to production and work across the full cycle
- Write your own code independently (AI assistance is fine)
- Backend development; ideally in Java but willing to learn
- Do DevOps as part of the role
- Main DevOps work on AWS
- Think product-first and communicate clearly
- Sketch simple architecture or flow diagrams (boxes and lines)
- Write SQL when needed (SQL-first approach)
Requirements
- At least 5+ years of experience
- Backend strength; ideally Java (open to those willing to learn)
- DevOps experience is a plus or strong desire to learn DevOps
- Willingness to learn Java (for DevOps role)
- Familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, EC2, ALBs, Route53, Cloudflare
- Able to write code independently (no Cursor)
- Comfortable writing SQL when needed
- Clear thinking and communication

Description
We’re a small UK-based free-to-play gaming company with a distributed EU team, growing fast after recent success and scaling our backend platform. We’re looking for two roles: (1) mid-senior to senior engineer with at least 5+ years of experience; (2) Mid-senior DevOps engineer, minimum 5+ years of experience. Backend: strong in backend development, ideally Java, but open to those willing to learn; DevOps experience is a plus, or strong desire to learn it; you’ll be expected to do devops as part of this role. DevOps: main role will be DevOps on AWS; willingness to learn Java; expected familiarity with Terraform, Kubernetes, EC2, ALBs, Route53, Cloudflare. Engineers must be able to think product-first and take a task from idea to production, work across the full cycle, and write their own code independently (AI assistance is fine, but you must be able to produce all your work independently). No Cursor. SQL-first approach; comfortable writing SQL when needed. Value clear thinking and communication; comfortable sketching simple architecture or flow diagrams (boxes and lines).
